Color of Success is the 1985 debut album by the funk/R&B singer, Morris Day. Released a year after departing previous band, The Time, the album is similar in style to The Time's material, even going so far as to copy The Time's formula of six songs per album. The album's highlight is "The Oak Tree", a funky-pop number about a dance, akin to "The Bird" by The Time. The album was produced, arranged and composed by Day, who also played drums and keyboards throughout the album

Morris E. Day (born December 13, 1957) is an American musician, composer, and actor. He is best known as the lead singer of The Time. In addition to his roles in Purple Rain (1984) and Graffiti Bridge (1990), Day also appeared in small parts in films such as Richard Pryor's Moving (1988) and the Andrew Dice Clay film The Adventures of Ford Fairlane (1990).

The words to some of the songs really encouraged me throughout my training. The CD has excellent sound. Reminds me of my good old hard days and what I can accomplish if I want to.
Morris Day's 'Color of Success' was capable of a lot more. When The Time unexpectedly called it quits in 1984, Morris Day was already prepping himself for a solo career. The charismatic lead singer of The Time had just come off of a great performance in Prince’s Purple Rain, and he had credo from his work with The Time.
