But the sentiments are less important than they way they are expressed; Bonepony plays practically every song as though they are trying to get an audience's attention in a loud bar, which they doubtless have spent a lot of time doing. Their music is urgent and compelling, but seems likely to fall between the stools of rock and country in marketing terms.

Bonepony is an American rock band, formed in the late 1980s by singer/songwriter Scott Johnson and guitarist Bryan Ward in the Baltimore, Maryland area. The band recorded a demo and toured sporadically.

I saw Bonepony live in 1994 or 1995, and still remember the show fondly. They played all their own songs and yet I was drawn into the music the way I would be if I were listening to a well-known group play songs I'd known and loved for years. The other day, the group came to mind, and I decided to look for a CD. It's better than I remembered. This is just a 3-person band, but the music has plenty of intricacy; a really "full" sound  .
