This is a sortable list of compositions by Richard Wagner. List of works for the stage by Richard Wagner. Deathridge . Geck M. and Voss E. (1986). Wagner Werk-Verzeichnis (WWV): Verzeichnis der musikalischen Werke Richard Wagners und ihrer Quellen ("Catalogue of Wagner's Works: Catalogue of Musical Compositions by Richard Wagner and Their Sources"). Mainz, London, & New York: Schott Musik International. Listing of the nis ‹See Tfd (in German).

Wagner's most enduring work, Der Rin des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung), consists of four separate operas and took 26 years to complete. He finally reached the conclusion, Götterdämmerung, in 1876. Written in 1859, Tristan und Isolde is another example of Wagner's operatic ideal of what he called the Gesamtkunstwerk ('Complete Art-Work'). Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg from 1868 might not match The Ring Cycle for length, but it's still a hefty four-and-a-half hours long

Why do politicians love the Ring cycle? Perhaps because it’s about the intimate relationship between love and power. For as long as I can remember, politicians and my fellow political journalists have been conspicuously drawn to the astounding works of Richard Wagner. Many composers address political themes and confront the timeless dilemmas of political life. But none has the gravitational pull of the Wagnerian planet. George Osborne and Michael Gove are passionate Wagnerites, as is Michael Portillo.

If you like your Wagner served up in bleeding chunks or if you're simply in a hurry to hear the tunes, then this compilation is for yo. Singing, without which it is impossible to get the full flavor of Wagner's work, is skirted whenever possible: this is an unapologetic tribute to Wagner the orchestral genius. At times the salesmanship is a little overblown-the glitzy packaging includes a cover shot of the helicopters from Apocalypse Now-and the sound, some of it from very good originals, seems to have been juiced with a little added digital reverb, resulting in an overall glassiness

Due to cassette programming limitations, one selection has been deleted from the original program (The Ride Of The Valkyries From "Die Walküre"). Other Versions (4 of 4) View All.
