On Souch', the core makeup of the classic Malavoi is still intact. The strings are vibrant, contrasting percussion bubbles underneath it all, the piano playing of Paulo Rosine is exceptional, and Pipo Gertrude and Tony Chasseur's voices are as smooth as ever. However, with the exception of "Tout' Je Pa Je" and "Retour d'Exil," the song material is not as sensually strong and compelling as on some of their other albums. For loyal fans of Malavoi, this is an album to complete their collections.

Malavoi was a Martinican band consisting of Mano Césaire, Jean-Paul Soïme, Christian de Negri, Denis Dantin, and Marcel Rémion. They formed in 1972, naming themselves after a kind of sugarcane and a street on Gorée, a Senegalese island. Many of the members were part of the Merry Lads, a band from the Lycée Schoelcher, and many had been students at Colette Franz, a music school.
