Noise Unit was initially a collaborative effort between FLA's Bill Leeb and Klinik's Mark Verhaeghen that focused more on early 80s soundscapes and percussive dance tracks than the more disposable material Leeb was grinding out under the FLA moniker at that time (I hated Balch-era FLA)  . For one thing, I'm not sure that the album relies on Leeb's usual & method of recycling sampled bits into something new. I could be wrong. It just sounds a little too stripped down for that.

The band has seen several changes in line-up, with Bill Leeb being the only permanent member. It was released in 1989 through Wax Trax! and Antler-Subway.
