Nowhere near as bad as this reviewer says - worth the purchase price for the exquisite "Trust Me"
Don't agree that "Tell everybody" is weak disco. For me it has a great build up. I really like Herbie as a Jazz Pianist, love his Jazz-Funk and find some of his electronic endeavours a bit boring. But "Tell everybody" is one of my favourite Disco Tunes (well - I grew up on a corny Disco compilation tape, maybe I cannot escape that fact). The album as a whole is not outstanding. But the bad review is probably just a classic case of anti-Disco snobism.
This Hancock LP is a guilty pleasure and nothing more. I picked this up high school and wore out all of the grooves on my first copy. I agree with RJ Thomas that "Trust Me" is a gem; Hancock’s Rhodes electric piano flourishes add the right touch and Eddie Watkins’ bass work is superb. Yeah, “Tell Everybody” is weak disco, but “Honey From The Jar” is a serious slow burn and my favorite track on the album. No, there is no fusion and very little in the way of solos for Herbie, but I make no apologies for digging this set.
