Acoustic Ladyland (right) began life as an acoustic quartet politely jazzing up Hendrix tunes. Then they listened to one too many Strokes CDs and sold their souls to rock’n’roll. Skinny Grin is a mix of punk energy and jazz technique built over the pummelling bass of Tom Herbert. Singers now often vie with Pete Wareham’s sax. Oddly though, the jazz future can sound a lot like the post-punk past.
