Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu – Brief biography Gurrumul was born in 1970 at Elcho Island, off the coast of Arnhem Land, Northern Australia about 580 kilometres from Darwin. He was born blind, has never learned Braille and does not have a guide dog or use a white cane. He was formerly with the band Yothu Yindi. It seems a translation is not required to hear the clarity of his voice and feel the praise and laments to God on the gospel album. Stories of human frailty done so beautifully and soulful. Gurrumul has long received praise for his exceptional voice. It is performed in a mixture of both Yolngu and English The album is a dedication to Gurrumul's mother and aunts, who brought him up with songs and lullabies from the church at Elcho Island.

Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu will release his third studio album, The Gospel Album, this July, and has announced a national tour in support of the release. He’ll be heading out across the country this July and August. Gurrumul’s six-date The Gospel Songs Tour will begin in Sydney on 29th July, just two days before The Gospel Album arrives on 31st July.
