Sacred Music by Maltese Composers. AGNUS DEI - Sacred Choral Music - The Choir of New College, Oxford.

A collection of sacred music by Maltese composers of the nineteenth century promises an exotic experience for the non-Maltese listener, and this Maltese-Bulgarian disc does not disappoint. Although the direct influence of Italian music teachers on the island of Malta apparently (one learns from the rather gushy but never dull booklet) declined in the nineteenth century, Italian opera is the primary style reference of most of these works. The sound is better than on other releases by the Gega label, with a Maltese seminary providing an appropriate environment.
