Part of the World Music Network Rough Guides series, the album gives broad coverage to the music of Central Europe and the music of Eastern Europe, focusing on traditional styles. Five of the fifteen tracks hail from Bulgaria, four are from Hungary, two are Macedonian, and Romania, Russia, Poland, and Albania contribute one track each.
Rough Guide To The Music Of Eastern Europe. As with most of the Rough Guide music releases, this one casts a wide net, hauling in innovative folk groups like Musikas and Taraf de Haiduks, edgier jazz from Ferus Mustafov and Ivo Papasov, and new musical excursions by bands like Zsarotnok. The set also includes well-known vocal groups like the Mystery of Bulgarian Voices ensemble and Trio Bulgarka.

Masumi Nagasawa is a Japanese harpist, and one of the few performers in the world to master all at once modern Grand Harp, the single-action pedal harp from the 18th-19th century, the Irish harp and the kugo (Japanese ancient harp). She studied modern harp with Phia Berghout at the Conservatory in Maastricht and historical harp with Mara Galassi. In 1990, Nagasawa received the Muramatsu Music Prize Grand Prix Japan. Currently she teaches at the Conservatorium Maastricht and works on her P. at the University Of Leeds under professor Clive Brown. International festivals where she performed include the Kuhmo International Chamber Music Festival, Salzburg and Geneva Music Festivals, the Akiyoshidai International Music Festival, and Torino Milano Festival Internazionale della Musica.
