Rabbani, which means 'yang soleh', came to the attention of Malaysian music lovers in 1997 when they released their self-titled debut album. At a time when nasyid songs ruled the mainstream market, their sales for that album shot up to 90,000 units. All of Rabbani's songs and performances received amazing response from people from all walks of life and all age groups. Thus, it came as no surprise when Rabbani managed to be the most popular nasyid group in Malaysia for a few years running. The members of Rabbani were bold enough to incorporate modern music into their nasyid songs, instead of making music that is merely dominated by the sound of percussion instruments. They have succeeded in creating an interesting fusion of contemporary nasyid music, appealing to a larger (and younger) audience.
