The Gregg Smith Singers ( GSS) is a mixed chorus from the USA, directed by Gregg Smith. The group, which comprises 16 singers, was founded at an all-Japanese Methodist church in West Los Angeles, California in 1955, when Gregg Smith was a graduate teaching assistant in the music department of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). They have also made a well received yuletide album entitled "Christmas Songs from around the World" whose arrangements have also been performed by other choruses, chorales, and choirs as well. For example, Gregg Smith and Robert Shaw are the only choral conductors to receive the Alice M. Ditson Conductor's Award.

Gregg Smith Singers : La Noche. An intriguing choral piece, with orchestral use of voices, that goes off into surprising, theatrical melodic directions.

One might find the album interesting for this under-appreciated aspect of choral performance, yet except for the obvious stereo separation, one discovers with some disappointment that the spatial arrangements are much less apparent on disc than they would be in concert; the point of this collection seems minimized unless one listens attentively with headphones. Even so, the mix of compositional approaches is varied, and the program holds considerable appeal for anyone interested in modern choral music.
