Nancy Osborne also provides effective vocalese on the instrumental break of "Gypsy In My Soul. Let's look at a few more positives. Osborne opens with a saucy version of Peggy Lee's "I Love Being Here With You" and concludes with Bobby Darin's signature song, "As Long As I'm Singing," which he usually used to close sets. Pardon My Southern Accent" is an obscure Johnny Mercer tune from 1934 and "Two Lost. Hot Swing, Cool Jazz by Michael P. Gladstone. Hot Swing, Cool Jazz.
The songs are presented in an exceptionally showy, overdramatic form. Osborne has a wide range in her vocals, from the deepest (and most incongruous) whispers in "Mister Sandman" to the speedy patter in "Something's Gotta Give. The musical backing is able, with a collection of Southern California big-band players taking up the charge behind Osborne's powerful presence. She's not just singing like she's on-stage in this recording, she's singing. Probably great live, but a bit much for a casual jazz album.

Cool jazz is a style of modern jazz music that arose in the United States after World War II. It is characterized by relaxed tempos and lighter tone, in contrast to the fast and complex bebop style. Cool jazz often employs formal arrangements and incorporates elements of classical music. Broadly, the genre refers to a number of post-war jazz styles employing a more subdued approach than that found in other contemporaneous jazz idioms.
