Let's Active - Afoot mp3 download
Let's Active is an American rock group formed in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1981, and often identified with the jangle pop guitar work of the group's frontman and songwriter Mitch Easter. After disbanding in 1990, the group reformed in August 2014 to play a benefit show in North Carolina. Let's Active was formed in 1981 by Mitch Easter, a guitarist and songwriter best known as a record producer, with Faye Hunter on bass.
Afoot, essentially the demo that got them signed to IRS, does an excellent job of capturing the band's early period, when they were a tight trio centered around Mitch Easter's songwriting talents and production prowess. Their ability to pull off pop songs with economy and precision is especially evident on "Every Word Means No", an absolutely classic pop song by anyone's standards.
Let's Active – Cypress/Afoot. Label: Collectors' Choice Music – CCM-376-2. Format: CD, Compilation, Reissue. Rerelease of a 1989 IRS CD combining two earlier vinyl releases, LP Cypress and EP Afoot.
I had heard of Let's Active before, but I knew very little about them. Sure, Cypress was reissued in 2003 through Collector's Choice by EMI, but it's already out of print again. I have since purchased the album on vinyl as well, along with band's 1983 debut EP, Afoot, which is also superb. The Collector's Choice reissue of Cypress features Afoot as well, along with two session B-sides from the era. I knew this record would stay with me the instant I listened to it, but the reasons for its extended residence in my ears have only multiplied over the years.

Hunter left Let’s Active following the release of the band’s debut album, Cypress. Tonight, Easter’s recording studio, Fidelitorium Recordings in Kernersville, . Faye Hunter, you will be missed and loved forever. Below, in Hunter’s memory, is the original video for the Every Word Means No, the opening song of the Afoot EP, as well as footage (via bosstime41) of Hunter’s final public performance, also of Every Word Means No, filmed this past May at a celebration of Winston-Salem music.
The trio released a six-song EP, 1983's Afoot, on IRS Records. In 1984, the band released the more experimental Cypress. While the EP and album sold modestly, they found a strong following in the emerging rock" audience. Hunter and Romweber left shortly after the release, leaving Let's Active as essentially a solo project for Easter. Romweber later went on to join Snatches of Pink and the Dexter Romweber Duo (the latter led by her brother, the founder of the group Flat Duo Jets).
