Wien Haydn Trio - Dvorák: Piano Trio in E minor "Dumky"; Smetana: Piano Trio in G minor mp3 download

The death of Smetana's daughter Bedřiška was the emotional impetus behind the composition of the Trio for Piano and Strings in G minor, Op. 15. After Bedřiška succumbed to scarlet fever on 6 September 1855, Smetana was devastated; the composer immersed himself in composition, producing the trio soon enough for it to be performed later that year.

Piano Trio No. 4 in E Minor, Op. 90, B. 166 "Dumky": III. Allegro - Beethoven Trio Wien, Anton Dvorak, Friedrich Smetana. Открывайте новую музыку каждый день

Dvorak's "Dumky" Trio - characterized by alternating passages of slow and fast - is by far the better known. This 1979 performance by the Haydn-Trio, Vienna, does not entirely capture these sharp contrasts. The tempos lean more toward the slow end, making slow parts of the dumka laborious and fast parts somewhat lackluster. While the intonation and technique are generally quite solid, the group's tone quality seems better suited for music by its namesake (Haydn) and his contemporaries.

The Piano Trio No. 166, (also called Dumky trio from the subtitle Dumky) is a composition by Antonín Dvořák for piano, violin and cello. It is among the composer's best-known works. At the same time it is a prominent example for a piece of chamber music deviating strongly from the customary form of classical chamber music – both in terms of the number of movements and of their formal construction.
