The big work here, of course, is the composer’s Second Symphony, a very big work dating from 1913, and a huge success in comparison to his First (which was wrecked at its premiere by the conductor, composer Alexander Glazunov, reportedly being drunk on the podium). At its full length, it is close to an hour; and only a handful of recordings (notably Andre Previn’s for EMI with the London Symphony Orchestra, and Eugene Ormandy’s for RCA with the Philadelphia Orchestra, both from 1973) are uncut.
