Charles Mackerras' 1995 recording of Don Giovanni with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra & Chorus is intriguing largely because it includes both the original Prague version and the revised Vienna version of the middle of the second act. The Prague version ends the second CD and the Vienna version opens the third CD, making it easy for listeners to skip over whichever version they choose, or just play the discs straight through and listen to both. The performances on the whole, though, are not consistently strong enough to make this a particularly competitive reading of the opera.

Renowned Mozart scholar Sir Charles Mackerras masterfully interprets one of the world's most treasured operatic masterpieces. The superb cast beautifully renders the alluring charms and heavy dramatic turns of this celebrated piece. This seems to me, all round, an immensely enjoyable version of Don Giovanni. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Don Giovanni, K. 527, Act II, Scene 5: "Don Giovanni! A cenar teco m'invitasti" (Live). Sir Charles Mackerras, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Bryn Terfel Mozart: Don Giovanni, ossia Il dissoluto punito, . 27, Act 2 - "Deh! vieni alla finestra".

Conductor – Sir Charles Mackerras. Directed By – Timothy Byram-Wigfield.

Don Giovanni (K. 527; complete title: Il dissoluto punito, ossia il Don Giovanni, literally The Rake Punished, or Don Giovanni) is an opera in two acts with music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and with an Italian libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte. It was premiered by the Prague Italian opera at the Teatro di Praga (now called the Estates Theatre) on October 29, 1787. Da Ponte's libretto was billed like many of its time as dramma giocoso, a term that denotes a mixing of serious and comic action. Mozart entered the work into his catalogue as an "opera buffa".

Mozart: Don Giovanni, K527. The Orchestra and Chorus of the Royal Opera House. Charles Mackerras (conductor) & Francesca Zambello (stage director). Simon Keenlyside (Don Giovanni), Kyle Ketelsen (Leporello), Eric Halfvarson (Il Commendatore), Marina Poplavskaya (Donna Anna), Joyce DiDonato (Donna Elvira), Ramón Vargas (Don Ottavio), Miah Persson (Zerlina), Robert Gleadow (Masetto). Recorded live at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, on 8th & 12th September 2008. Don Giovanni is one of the timeless classics of all opera. Mozart's music, and the words of his great collaborator Da Ponte, are brought to life in Francesca Zambello's engrossing production from 2002 with its rich and colourful designs by Maria Bjornson.
