New York Unit - St. Thomas: Tribute to Great Tenors mp3 download

During the first half of the 1990s, the New York Unit (pianist John Hicks, bassist Richard Davis, and drummer Tatsuya Nakamura) were actively recording, but usually with a different guest artist. Oddly enough, this tribute to great tenor saxophonists is a trio date, with performances of songs either composed by or closely associated with each of the four honored musicians. It is quite a challenge for a saxophone-less date to salute so many great tenor saxophonists, but through their imaginative settings of each piece, the New York Unit succeeds in this all-around fine effort.
