About A Lady of a Certain Age. The lyrics describe the lifestyle, and apparent emptiness, of an ‘it’ girl. Never forming any real relationships with others, unless it benefits her financially or socially. Even to the point of sending her kids away (likely to a bording school), and stating its ‘simply what you did in those days’ to defer any guilt. Each chorus is a new moment further into her life, continuing to describe the fleeting years left in her looks (which is all that she is left with at this point)

Victory for the Comic Muse is the ninth studio album by The Divine Comedy. It was released by EMI on 19 June 2006. Neil Hannon did not choose the title as a reference to the group's 1990 debut Fanfare for the Comic Muse. It's actually a quote from the book "A Room with a View" ("I have won a great victory for the comic muse"). On 28 February 2007, Victory for the Comic Muse won the Choice Music Prize at a ceremony that took place in Dublin's Vicar St. venue.
