The Road to Travel shows that his well of inspiration had not yet run dry. With help from a conglomeration of friends and studio professionals, Sommer proved he was facile in a variety of styles - orchestral pop, acoustic folk, and some of the most sensitive singer/songwriter material heard before the style had fully flowered (with apologies to Tim Buckley)

Yes, Bert Sommer! From his early beginnings and personal songs about life's journey this 11 song initial studio album was entirely produced by Artie Kornfeld, the father of Woodstock.
Here it is, it's summertime Still I haven't felt my sigh And the years are over too, since I'm gone. And my daddy wonders why How I look and make him proud But I'll carry on his name when he dies. Though the years of headache pain I'll continue on the game To the further road that I can travel tonight Find my peace, of mine
The choice of songs to perform at Woodstock was difficult to say the least. Artie wanted some new material that would capture the attention of the Woodstock feeling. Bert was thinking of opening with something off the first album called 'Jennifer' ~ a song about love & emotional attachment. Bert Sommer (rear) - left is Tom Feher (The Left Banke) - right is Peter Sabatino (The Vagrants) and Joan Padney (the ultimate hippie chick). Ira Stone was Bert's lead guitar player at Woodstock '69: pictured here in 2007.
