Album: Judith Bingham Choral Music. Artist: Wells Cathedral Choir, Matthew Owens, Jonthan Vaughn, Judith Bingham. This is a disc of music written from an insider’s perspective. She was a mezzo soprano with the BBC Singers from 1983 to 1996 before leaving to concentrate full-time on composition. Bingham has an acute ear for choral effectiveness, but her music for the Anglican tradition doesn’t essay the honeyed niceness of a John Rutter or the heart-on-sleeve formulas of Karl Jenkins.
