This CD is part of RCA's extensive Greatest Hits jazz program, a beginner's series designed to introduce listeners to jazz, specifically RCA's jazz catalog. The 13 selections on this somewhat confusing CD jump back and forth between three different periods: 1933 (highlighted by "St. Louis Blues"), 1946-47 (the best music on the set) and Armstrong's next-to-last session in 1970 (including the definitive version of "What a Wonderful World").

Louis Armstrong - Greatest Hits put out by RCA Victor gives us a solid assortment of numbers by the immortal Louis Armstrong. The sound quality is really rather good; and the artwork is excellent. The track set opens with "Sugar" performed by Louis Armstrong & His Hot Seven band. The quality of the sound surprises me considering the age of the recording. Louis sings this to perfection and beyond; and his buddies play so well. I think "Sugar" makes a great starting track for this album  . 14 people found this helpful.
