The Specials is the debut album by British ska revival band The Specials. Released on 19 October 1979 on Jerry Dammers' 2 Tone label, the album is seen by some as the defining moment in the UK ska scene. Produced by Elvis Costello, the album captures the disaffection and anger felt by the youth of the UK's "concrete jungle"-a phrase borrowed from Bob Marley's 1972 album Catch a Fire but equally apposite used here to describe the grim, violent inner cities of 1970s Britain.

Encore is the eighth studio album by the English ska revival band The Specials. It is their first studio album of original songs since 1998's Guilty 'til Proved Innocent!, and their first new material with vocalist Terry Hall since 1981's "Ghost Town" single

Recorded at different venues in Europe and the UK during the 2011 tour.

Less frenzied than its predecessor, but more musically adventurous, More Specials was nearly as popular in its day as its predecessor, falling just one chart place below their debut. It kicked off in similar fashion as well, with a classic cover, this time with an exuberant take on Carl Sigman and Conrad Magidson's 1940s chestnut "Enjoy Yourself.

How live was the first album? It was more or less recorded with everyone playing at once, then some vocals redone and maybe some brass done as overdubs. On the second album, we started moving towards recording Roddy’s guitar and my additional keyboard parts separately as overdubs, even the drums where I used the cheesy home organ rhythm machines and arpeggiators.

and probably always will be. good vibes. One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen loads) and three almost. 28 May. See All. Videos.

So, I was turned onto the Specials by David Wilcox's bass player sometime late '79 early '80s. Shortly after, I spent a month in England/Wales and they were everywhere. I loved them from the minute I heard them and still do. Which is why I can't agree with FT basically writing this off as redundant (read superfluous). It is great having all these stellar tracks under one roof and the infectious energy of a live performance adds that bit of je ne sais quoi that sets it apart from the originals. Sure it would be great to have some Grateful Dead quality bootlegs from the early days but absent that this is one fun album with great sound. To say it is only for completists does it a disservice.
