Manhattan darlings the Realistics joined the garage rock revival of the new millennium, spawning their own glam-inspired punk rock. Eighteen With a Bullet. View all.
Miles Ahead is an album by Miles Davis that was released in October 1957 by Columbia Records. It was Davis' first collaboration with arranger Gil Evans following the Birth of the Cool sessions. Along with their subsequent collaborations Porgy and Bess (1959) and Sketches of Spain (1960), Miles Ahead is one of the most famous recordings of Third Stream, a fusion of jazz, European classical, and world musics. Davis played flugelhorn throughout.
The Realistics are not part of the B-team of nu-garage bands, each becoming more faceless than the next. Instead, the Realistics come out with guns blazing on this 7 track EP, showing you just who's in charge here. The band doesn't ape the Strokes ; they aren't middle-aged men trying to be overly-hip ; and they're certainly not trying to summon the ghost of Robert Johnson.
The Realistics combined their love for 1950s pop music to obscure punk rock, and eventually this stylish four-piece won over promoters at Brownies and the Mercury Lounge for regular gigs. In late 2000, the Realistics were approached by Tiswas Records owner Nick Marc. Marc wanted the Realistics to record some material and the polished product was Real People Are Overrated. Dates with the late Joe Strummer, Phantom Planet, the Mooney Suzuki, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club soon followed as well as a spot at South by Southwest in 2002
