Helmuth Rilling (b. 1933) recorded all of Johann Sebastian Bach's (1685-1750) sacred Cantatas between 1970 and 1985, with the Bach Collegium Stuttgart and in some cases, Württemburg Chamber Orchestra on 70 CDs as presented here. I find this to be an excellent set: the performances are excellent even if the recording job is in some cases not as clear as the later, digital recordings. Some writers are too critical of Rilling's set, which I believe to be excellent

S. Bach - Das Kantatenwerk is a classical music recording project initiated by the record label of Telefunken in 1971 (first recordings had been made in December 1970) to record all 193 sacred Bach cantatas. The project was entrusted to Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Gustav Leonhardt. Each conductor had his own instrumental ensemble, based in Austria and the Netherlands respectively.

However, the spurious cantatas retain their BWV numbers. The List of Bach cantatas is organized by BWV number but sortable by other criteria. Bach used an expanded structure to take up his position in Leipzig with the cantatas Die Elenden sollen essen, BWV 75, and Die Himmel erzählen die Ehre Gottes, BWV 76, both in two parts, to be performed before and after the sermon (post orationem) and during communion (sub communione). Each part is a sequence of an opening movement, five movements with alternating recitatives and arias, and a chorale. Helmuth Rilling, Gächinger Kantorei, and the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart completed a recording of the sacred cantatas and oratorios on Bach's 300th birthday, 21 March 1985.

Back in 1969 Helmuth Rilling and his ensembles started recording albums of Johann Sebastian Bach's lesser known cantatas. By the eve of Bach's 300th birthday in 1985 this exercise had resulted in the first complete recording of Bach's cantatas. Rilling described his experience of this awesome project
