Paris-Ziguinchor (Live).

African Connection, Vol. 2: West Africa Since Senegambia and its Islamic environs nurture solo expressive practices more individualistic (more "Western"?) (more "soulful"?) than those of the Congo, these pop moves by Salif Keita, Youssou N'Dour, and Parisian pets Toure Kunda might not mesh all that well with Alpha Blondy and epigones' Afro-reggae grooves even if they were snazzier.

And African Scream Contest II is a gloriously cinematic road-trip through an undiscovered realm of music lore whose familiarity is every bit as thrilling as its otherness. Written by Ben Thomson, March 2018.

Through rhythmic repetition, they were able to develop hypnotic and captivating pieces that were sometimes based on something as mundane as the introduction of bandmembers, a feature that occurs no less than three times over the course of this album but can go almost unnoticed in context. The west african legends from senegal. The older folks might still remember that the first world music albums from Africa which could be found in any well organised record collection were Osibisa’s Black Magic Night-Live At The Royal Festival Hall (1977) and Touré Kunda’s Live Paris-Ziguinchor (1984). The core of this family formation from Casamance are the siblings Ismaila and Sixu Tidiané Touré who were initially supported by their brother Amadu who died in 1983. They have recorded numerous successful albums until 2008. His second album "Journey To Jah" (2002) already reached gold status and the following "Confidence" (2004) is considered one of the most successful albums that has ever been sold in the history of German reggae. Numerous colleagues like Shaggy or Ky-Mani Marley value his personal qualities.

African Connection's upcoming album was inspired by Fela Kuti. African Connection comprises Frank Ankrah, a Ghanaian drummer who played for Fela in the 1980s, Abdulai Issaka Kyemtore (Ghana), Kwesi Dankwah (Ghana), Maggie Cawley (US), Lasse Aagaard (Denmark), Martin Robert Madsen (Denmark), Lasse Enøe (Denmark) and Olaf Johannes Brinch (Denmark). Africa is a big continent with various music genres, so it is hard to say. I think the interest for quality musicians who play with their heart and make people dance is on high demand, he said. We definitely feel that the interest for world music in general is growing and there is especially a focus on West Africa at the moment. Lots of the styles that are played have an Afro element.
