Simple Minds signed to Chrysalis for Néapolis and saw the return of Derek Forbes on bass. Néapolis signals a return to form while remaining on the cutting edge. Unlike U2, the band they have been most often compared to, Simple Minds have not lost themselves in techno beats and processed samples. Longtime fans will embrace this album; from the opening track, "Song for the Tribes," through the two singles, "Glitterball" and "War Babies," one immediately recognizes that classic sound.

Always loved simple minds, when i bought the album I would have liked it to some extent just because its simple minds...but its playing continuously in my cd player...just feel like repeating it ....such a beautiful album, very nice laid back sound, different music, nothing like simple minds has done before and yet, all the trade marks there. Trip Hop, Ambient trance, beats remind me of Kraftwerk- trans europe express with oriental percussion. No wonder this album was not a traditional hit or did not get as much radio play...as there is nothing commercial in the album...no sellouts...just pure art.My favourite was streetfighting years..but simple minds got overindulgent in that album at times for example songs like mandela day...this album is my second favourite simple minds album...but could easily be no.1, probably is. Can listen again and again.......and again. Must check out album for anyone who likes simple minds, electronic music (non dance) , trancy/ambient and trip hop.
Great Album! I liked Samir's review. I like it a lot the album, I think it fits very well with the time when it was released where trip-hop, breakbeat and alternative electronic music were in fashion. Also venturing into the worldbeat is a good album maybe the people did not like it. Behind the sound on loaded of beats and electronic effects hide great songs
A huge disappointment! By reading both the All Music review and Samir's review, I was expecting something really good, as in the good old days. Nothing so far from it than this boring, monotonous, repetitive, dispirited album. They have either lost their north or believe we, old fans of Simple Minds, woud fall in the trap. A real pity!!
