Echoes. rafael kiehl Un album qui m'a clairement remué et que je redécouvre à chaque nouvelle écoute. The Goon A goddamn masterpiece. I know the vocals make or break this band for a lot of people, but I would lump this with some of the best doom records of all time.

Watching from a Distance is an album that came about at the right time. The music in itself is nothing worth noting, it's bland, unimaginative and dry yet for some reason people can't get enough of it. It's something that will always astound me no matter how many listens I give it to try and immerse myself in the experience. I suppose it's not the bands fault, really, I highly doubt the critical acclaim would go through the roof when they released it. So I can't really fault them for the reputation they've built themselves. Watching from a Distance tries to come across as painfully earnest and inspired, yet the sheer desperation of it all causes the music to completely annihilate itself. The music is just so sad that it goes completely past the point of being tastefully atmospheric and emotional to devolve into realms of whining self pity and teenage angst.

It was recently brought to my attention by a Warning fan that my 2006 album, Watching from a Distance, was being reissued on vinyl.

Said album, "Watching From a Distance," is a deeply confessional story of love and loss. This is a rare occurrence where the underlying concept is actually crucial towards the album's success. Everything plays so perfectly with the deeply depressing and emotionally gut wrenching narrative, that it simply cannot be ignored. Watching From a Distance" is a beast of an album, both in terms of depth and breadth. Thematically and musically, the album is incredibly absorbing, making for an all around immense piece of work. The guitars are dense, the drums are heavy, and the. Yet with these small complaints aside, Warning have clearly crafted a masterpiece. Watching From a Distance" works like a living, breathing organism, where each aspect is vital to the "life" of the album.

Some say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and since their foundation Warning had always tried to imitate every single trick of Solstice’s two albums, making way for a more varied melodic variation of My Dying Bride’s sound. However, it hasn’t profited to themselves, as they were found ignored by Solstice enthusiasts and crushed by While Heaven Wept’s superior songwriting. Alas, the situation doesn’t end here, as the band, on their second album, was starting to imitate While Heaven Wept as well.Judging by Warning’s sporadic activity, they are an extremely minor rock band in the British scene, having released merely two albums as of now: their debut The Strength to Dream, released in 1999, was an inoffensive replica of Solstice’s Lamentations crushed by vomit-inducing vocals by singer-guitarist Patrick Walker. Their second, Watching from a Distance, finds the man imitating While Heaven Wept Tom Philips vocally, including his “subtle” tremolo-voice and Brett Anderson cadences and pronunciation, but his tone is slightly less professional and crystalline: he sounds as an old Scottish devourer of haggish trying to sing as much possibly operatically he can, and hasn’t dramatically progressed as a singer. Similarly, the band’s brand of Gothic Metal includes plenty of Black Metal tritons, blurred suspended chords and a strong jump in terms of consistence for the better. However, all of this doesn’t erase their destiny, that of be unfavorably compared to other British contemporary bands who have reaped much more in terms of fame and consistence. Watching from a Distance stands as a failed opportunity, but at least none can declare it’s trash product… at least not until one rewrites it to create a much better album.Highlights: “Watching from a Distance”, “Footprints”.
